How we’re responding to COVID-19

Since our inception, PES has always put the health & safety of everyone (employees, subcontractors, clients and the general public alike) at the forefront of all that we do.
Our stance has not changed following the COVID-19 pandemic and as such we are committed to ensuring that we protect our people from the virus to the best of our ability.

We have paid close attention to the guidance and recommendations from the government and trade bodies and have created a safe system of work with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SSOW will be continually reviewed by our management team to ensure its suitability. A summary of our SSOW is below, but each current and future project will have more detailed SSOW included within each site and task specific Risk Assessment &
Method Statement.

Our staff will:

  • Not come to work if they do not feel well.
  • Inform the PES management team and immediately return home if they begin to feel unwell whilst at work.
  • Maintain good hygiene practice by regularly washing their hands and using hand sanitisers provided.
  • Maintain the minimum social distance of 2m. (where social distancing requirements cannot be met the correct PPE will be provided and enforced as well as a buddy system that sees the same members of staff working together to control the risk of transmission).
  • Avoid direct contact with others.
  • Cough or sneeze in the bend of their elbow or use a disposable single use tissue and then discard it immediately in a safe manner.

When accessing the site, staff will:

  • Follow the instructions provided at each individual site regarding access.
  • Allow temperature checks to be carried out where requested.
  • Maintain a minimum social distancing of 2m.
  • Follow traffic management instructions.

While working on client sites, staff will:

  • Follow any arrangements for shift rotations/staggered starts.
  • Not share tools, or where this is unavoidable, they should be cleaned prior and following use.
  • Clean equipment/tools that may have been handled and/or come into contact with objects/materials that may have been contaminated during works.
  • Follow the 4m/2person recommendation in common spaces (e.g. canteens, locker rooms, sanitary facilities etc).
  • Hold meetings remotely where possible, or follow social distancing rules where this is not possible.
  • Where a specific task cannot maintain social distancing, it should be risk assessed and guidance followed including wearing a surgical mask and safety glasses.

Throughout this document where cleaning is referred to, this should be done by using:

  • Disinfectant wipes.
  • A single-use cloth/paper and a disinfectant spray.
  • A single-use cloth/paper impregnated by a bleach solution with a minimum chlorine concentration of 0.5%.
